CITIES AND VILLAGES TO VISITE
  • LECCE: it is famous for the beauty of the baroque and for its extensive and elegant historic center. Worth visiting are the Cathedral, Basilica of Santa Croce, Greek Amphitheater, Roman Amphitheater, Palazzo dei Celestini, Carlo V Museum, in the streets of the center you will find several shops selling typical crafts (Leccese stone and papier-mâché)
  • NARDò: it is a historic center particularly popular in the evening and full of monuments and churches. Worth visiting is the Duomo, Piazza Salandra.
  • GALATINA: it is famous for being the birthplace of the Taranta (typical dance) and the Leccese Pasticciotto (typical dessert). Refined historic center where you can visit the Church of Saints Peter and Paul and the Basilica of Santa Caterina d’Alessandria (particular fourteenth-century frescoes).
  • COPERTINO: it is famous for being the birthplace of San Giuseppe da Copertino (protector of students and aviators). Worth visiting is the historic center famous for its Castle (Maschio Angioino), the Collegiate Basilica of Santa Maria ad Nives, the Sanctuary of San Giuseppe with the paternal house.
  • GALLIPOLI: it is called the Beautiful City and for good reason. Its historic center stands on a small island connected to the city by a bridge. In the old city you will find a large number of small churches and brotherhoods, all different from each other and each dedicated to a saint. The commercial activities offering typical products alternate with the Hypogean oil mills and places of culture such as libraries and theatres. Worth visiting are the Cathedral of Sant’Agata, the Rivellino Castle, the Old Market.
  • CORIGLIANO D’OTRANTO: it is one of the villages belonging to the Grecìa Salentina (a small area of municipalities where Griko is spoken) and particularly famous for its castle and suggestive noble palaces.
  • OTRANTO (on the Adriatic Coast): it is an elegant and refined city and its historic center is rich in monuments and art. To visit the Castle, the Duomo, the squares and terraces overlooking the sea. The center is full of restaurants and small shops offering typical crafts and local products.
  • SPECCHIA: it is among the 100 most beautiful villages in Italy. It stands on a promontory of modest altitude and is located in the lower Salento halfway between the Ionian and Adriatic coasts. The houses with white stone facades, the castle, the basilica and the square have become privileged places for summer evening strolls.
TIPS FOR AN EVENING WALK or FOR BREATHTAKING SUNSETS
  • SANTA CATERINA: It is suggestive for its seafront from which it is possible to admire the sunsets. The location is particularly attractive for the clubs built on the cliffs which offer drinks and music in the evening.
  • SANTA MARIA AL BAGNO: it is a small location with restaurants and places for cocktails and drinks. The seafront, from which you can admire a long stretch of coast up to the bay of Gallipoli, connects to the nearby town of Santa Caterina.
  • PORTO CESAREO: small town particularly popular in the evening for restaurants and ice cream parlors.
